That sounds shitty but it's more to do with them and how they were brought up/issues. Sounds like insecurity and an inability to understand their own needs/thrives off attention from others and possibly controlling you/creating a negative emotional reaction in you

I don’t flirt but definitely talk more with others than the person I crush on in a group setting. It’s not to piss them off, it’s just that I get scared and also how scared of how obvious I might look in front of other people and them commenting on it. People really do have different reasons for doing things. I don’t know how it is with this person but it sounds like they’re insecure or trying to make you jealous.

I take it more as they don't care about me or my feelings.

Either they aren't thinking about you at all, or they want to indirectly know that you aren't special to them.
